Dennis L. Martire Has Had an Impressive Career as a Union Leader
Dennis L. Martire has come a long way since his career began with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA). That was way back in 1990, which means he has almost three decades of union leadership in his background. He currently works with the highly-regarded union as a Vice President and as Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, just as he has since January 2002. Over the nearly three decades since then, Dennis has emerged as a leader on a wide variety of successful LiUNA initiatives.
As one prominent example, Dennis L. Martire played an instrumental role in the establishment of the process that gave workers on Fluor-Lane’s expansion of Route 495 Hot Lanes Project a choice on whether to join the union. That turned out to be a critical initiative, since those workers voted overwhelmingly to be members of LiUNA Local 11. That turned out to be one of the most impressive union victories in the construction industry in the state of Virginia to happen in many years.
In addition, Dennis L. Martire also worked tirelessly with Montgomery County, Maryland officials to pass a prevailing wage law to ensure that working families could count on fair wages from their employers. Such wage laws also serve another purpose, of course, because they serve to ensure that taxpayers receive a greater return on their public investments. Overwhelmingly, studies show that prevailing wage laws do not drive up costs for employers, but they do improve worker efficiency, which means public works projects are completed faster and more easily. In addition to all that, Dennis L. Martire also oversees LiUNA’s top-notch training program that serves to provide continuing training for members, which makes them more competent and efficient.
